Connect a USB receipt printer

A receipt printer plugged straight into your till’s USB port — such as an SNBC — prints from Higgs too. The browser talks to it directly, so there’s no print server and no IP address to find.

  1. 1

Use Chrome or Edge on the device the printer is plugged into — a Windows or Mac computer, or an Android tablet with a USB cable. Safari, Firefox, iPhone and iPad can’t reach USB printers.

  2. 2

Plug the printer in and switch it on.

  3. 3

Open Settings → Printers, click Add printer and choose "USB cable". Give it a name, tap "Connect printer" and pick it from the list your browser shows.

  4. 4

Save and hit Test Print. The printer becomes this device’s default, so bills print to it with one tap.

  5. 5

On Windows, if the printer doesn’t show up in the list or won’t connect, its own driver is holding it. Switch it to the WinUSB driver with the free Zadig tool, then connect again. Macs and Android tablets don’t need this.

TipA USB printer prints only from the device it’s plugged into. Other devices see it in the list but can’t send to it — if several phones and tablets need one printer, use a network printer instead.
