Payments & split bills
Take the money the way the table wants to pay it

Three switches
Online, cash, card terminal. Enable exactly what you accept today.
Your own account
Online card payments are charged on your own payment account.
Any split
Evenly or by item, across as many payers as the table has.
Live paid status
A settled payment flips the table on every open screen at once.
Splitting
Split bills that stay correct
A split is settled only against the payment intent minted for it, so two guests paying at the same time can't collide. Paid shares are immutable, and re-splitting divides only what's still owed.
- Split evenly or by item, across any number of guests.
- Each share paid its own way — one taps a card, another pays cash.
- Paid shares can't be edited afterwards; a re-split only touches the remainder.
- Bill status is derived from what's been paid, never set by hand.
Tips
The tip prompt goes to the guest's phone
Guests paying online are asked for a tip on their own device, per payer, on a split or a single check. No tablet flipped around, no one watching over a shoulder.
- Tips collected per payer and tracked as such.
- Works on split checks as well as single ones.
- Nothing awkward happening at the table.
Methods
Cash-only on day one is a valid setup
You don't have to solve payments to start. Launch with cash and terminal, switch online payments on later, and nothing else about your setup changes.
Disabled methods disappear from guest checkout instantly.
Cash and terminal payments are recorded in Higgs; the money never leaves your hands.
Online payments run on your own payment account, with fees itemised per charge.
Locking
A bill being paid can't shift underneath the payment
The moment payment starts on an order, its items lock. That closes the gap where a server adds a coffee to a bill someone is halfway through paying.
- Item edits blocked backend-side, not just hidden in the UI.
- The dashboard shows the order read-only while payment is in flight.
- Paid status pushes live to every screen the moment it settles.
The table decides how it splits. Your POS shouldn't have an opinion about it.

Frequently asked questions
- Which payment methods can I accept?
- Online card payments, cash, and your own card terminal. Each is an individual switch — enable only what you actually accept, and change it any time.
- Can a table split the bill?
- Yes — evenly or by item, across any number of payers, and each share can be paid a different way. Paid shares are locked, and a re-split only divides what's still owed.
- How do tips work?
- Guests paying online are prompted for a tip on their own phone, per payer, on split and single checks alike. Tips are tracked per payer.
- Whose payment account are card payments charged on?
- Your own. You connect your payment account, charges run on it, and processing fees are recorded per charge.
- Can staff still edit an order while it's being paid?
- No. Items lock as soon as payment begins — enforced on the backend, not just hidden in the interface.
